India will be ready to have internationalised domain names (IDN) on the internet in Hindi by June next year. You will be able to write Internet addresses in Hindi . Currently, Internet addresses are limited to Latin characters from ‘A’ to ‘Z’. As of 16 November 2009, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is accepting applications for internationalised domain names (IDN) country code top-level domains (ccTLDs). They represent country-specific names in the language-native writing system consisting of non-Latin symbols. “In a phased manner, we will have domain names in all the 22 scheduled Indian languages,” Tulika Pandey, additional director, information technology, told The Hindu Business Line.

The World’s First Programmable Quantum Computer
November 24th, 2009With only a few intense lasers, electrodes and some ultracold ions, researchers at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England, have been able to build the first programmable quantum computer.
What makes this experiment different is that this new system is able to perform more than 150 random processing routines.
The new study is “a powerful demonstration of the technological advances towards producing a real-world quantum computer,” says quantum physicist Winfried Hensinger of the University of Sussex in Brighton, England. The researchers, led by David Hanneke of the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, Colo. built the computer based on two cooled beryllium ions with a temperature of just above zero.
The ions formed the quantum bits, or qubits, analogous to the bits in normal computers represented by 0s and 1s, and were trapped by a magnetic field on a gold-plated aluminum chip. To perform the processing operations, short laser bursts were used to manipulate the beryllium ions. Magnesium ions kept the beryllium ions stationary, and from getting hot. It is believed that this system may be applied to larger-scale systems.
The system built was mostly experimental, but what is important is the fact that the principal may be applied on a larger scale, and therefor become practical.
Touch screen phone: Blackberry Storm2
November 20th, 2009
The Storm2 (the same as its predecessor during the first days of the original BlackBerry Storm) can be considered a singular device due to the way in which its touchscreen display interacts with the users.
Although, apparently, it is a conventional screen that detects the presence and location of a touch within the display area, the Storm2 has a different approach. Actually, it has an internal electronic system that is intended to offer a user experience very similar to the one with the regular touchscreen technology (at least, it imitates the sensitive experience in an efficient way). But, the main objective is to simulate the experience of using a physical keyboard by including improved features such as an audible clicking sound along with vibrating haptic feedback and selection lights when the user touches a virtual key. And we have to say that these improvements are really impressive. And another great thing with the BlackBerry Storm2 is that, with the new system, the screen becomes totally “solid” when it is turned off, allowing to avoid accidental clicks, which is an annoying thing that happens with the original BlackBerry Storm.
